Learning the Ups and Downs of Motherhood

My Week in Review July 20, 2006

Since last Wednesday, which started out as a glorious day (because I signed my teaching contract) until today, I’ve been stressed out emotional. After picking up my contract last Wednesday, Clint and I went to Taco Bell to grab something to eat. I noticed that I had a missed call on my cell phone and a new voice message. This is when it began.

The message was a message of panic from my grandparents neighbor Heidi. She said something was wrong with my grandpa, and that they were calling 911. I instantly looked at Clint and said that Grandpa had another stroke. I went outside to call them, and or course the line was busy. My mom was in Chicago at her yearly Pampered Chef convention, and my dad I hoped was at home.

When I finally got through Dad answered the phone and said that the EMT’s where there and getting ready to transport him to the hospital. I was stuck in Sedalia. Clint had church band practice and I had gone with to pick up my contract. I sat in the church and did what I do best. Worry, and hope that mom took the news well.

I finally arrived at the ER just in time to see my grandfather before they life flight him to St. Luke’s in Kansas City (the one off the Plaza). They had given him so experimental drug to get rid of the clot in his brain that was causing the stroke. As they took him to the helicopter he was completely paralyzed on his left side. The rest of that evening was a blur, it involved calming my mom down over the cell phone because she was a wreck in Chicago and the last flight had already taken off from the airport (did I mention it’s not like 10 when this is happening, it started at 6:45), I rode to the hospital with my brother and sister-in-law. Saw grandpa, Shannon picked me up and I stayed at her house, then went to work and then back to the hospital the next day.

My grandfather has had every test you can think of run on him. The doctor (who I think is a witch with a big ol’ B, as does the rest of my family) doesn’t have a good bed side manner. She was really blunt to us, which I guess she has to be, but show a little compassion. We were told that he has been having strokes since the first one in his sleep. Which explains some things that have been going on lately.

Grandpa hasn’t been in the best of moods either. His right brain (the affected part) is still in somewhat control. The left brain is trying to take over to get him to be reasonable and friendly again. We’ve had to explain to him several times that he can’t come home right away that he’s going to have to go to a rehab home and get his strength back, because grandma can’t take care of him.

If everything goes well, and hopefully it will, he’ll be coming back to Warrensburg tomorrow to live in the Country Club, until the VA home has an open bed. This whole thing has been really stressful for grandma. There’s been a couple days where she couldn’t go to the hospital because it was just so tough on her.

Did I mention that we are moving the 28th and 29th. So add packing a whole house ontop of everything. Oh, and Clint starting his new job, and Oh yea, making trips to the school to pick up items.

Fun Fun Fun

Let’s add the sprinkles, we have to keep the house in somewhat order because people are coming over to look at it. So try packing and keeping the house clean. It’s a trip.

Poor Slink is so confused with all the boxes. Everytime I start to pack he starts to cry. Clint has been having “talks” with him explaining that we are moving. Somehow I don’t think he quite gets it.

I’ve run out of boxes for the second time. Gotta go get more.

I love moving!

So with the new job comes more AWESOME news!!!

Clint and I will be moving to Lee’s Summit as of 1 Aug. My job is in East Lynn, 15 minutes from Lee’s Summit. I will be teaching a 7th grade self contained classroom. Which means that I will have 16 students teach all core subjects. Tiny school 300 people in the town. Low stress for my first year of teaching. The school is K-8, which means its considered elementary, so I don’t have to get another certificate.

And yes… a gaming room will be in the house as well. With the return of the PING PONG TABLE!!! SHOUT FOR JOY!!!!

Plus 2 HUGE bedrooms, dining room, 1 1/2 bath, FIREPLACE deck, need I go on….

So let the glorius packing begin!!!

New Job July 5, 2006

Not for me. . . For Clint. As of tomorrow, he will no longer be working at Hastings. At least he’s putting in his two weeks notice. Clint got a job at CMSU working with the WebMaster, his brother’s department, converting the webpage over to the new system. If he likes it enough and does an awesome job, there’s a possibility that he might be offered the job permanently . Right now it’s a temp job, roughly 500 hours worth of work. He’s super excited and so am I. It’s really flexible and he can go in whenever he wants, as long as he gets his stuff done.

Still no word on the job front for me. I interviewed with Excelsior Springs again last week. This time for a 7th Comm Arts job. I’m not certified in the area, however, I would just have to take the test.

We had a WODNERFUL 4th of July. We basically had something every night this past weekend with the exception of Sunday. Saturday night we had a BBQ in Sweet Springs with Clint’s family. It was alot of fun. Try playing Red Light Green Light running backwards with people who have been drinking at your next party. It’s very interesting. Monday night we went to the Royals game with my Parents. It was fun. It rained, and Clint and I stayed at our seats during the rain, no umbrellas or rain coats. But it was so warm, that we were dry by the time we got back to the car. Last night we hung out with our buddies Aaron and Ethan at their place. I saw a raccoon that was bigger than Caesar, my parent’s dog.

I had a three day weekend, which was greatly needed. Today I was glad to get back to work. I had missed my kids.

We are having a garage sale this weekend, so I’ve got to get busy pricing all my stuff that we are selling.

I feel that things are going to turn around for the good here soon. . .
