Blood Results June 27, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 5:28 pm

So I got the blood results back Monday right before Clint and I had to leave for class. Luckily there’s nothing wrong with me, other than the fact that I’m PREGNANT!!! I guess birth control doesn’t really work. I have no clue when the due date is. I can’t get into the OB doctor until the 19th of July, even then it will be the family history appointment and Pre-natal tests. The nurse thinks that I am 10 weeks at the latest, but won’t know for sure until I go to the OB Doc. If I am truly 10 weeks then I would be due sometime in January. If it’s not ten weeks, Clint and I did calculations and it would be Feb or March.

I don’t have morning sickness, and I haven’t gotten sick. I get nausea in the early evenings, and I’m been really moody and tired lately. Clint has been really sweet. He made me breakfast this morning which consisted of scrambled eggs with cheese and ham, and toast. I also made some fruit salad, which tasted yummy. I’ve been reading about the whole being pregnant thing, and read that if you have “evening sickness” that I should eat a big meal in the morning or lunch, and then eat light in the afternoon. My body temperature is going crazy, that’s what really is bothering me at the moment. I’m normally a cold person, wrap up in blankets and cuddle with the dog. However, not lately I’ve been uber hot one minute and the next freezing. I guess I’ll get used to it!

Yeah for being a mommy!

Slinky and Me June 23, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 1:35 pm

So poor Slinky. Thursday and Friday were not very good days (at least in his eyes). We finally found a vet that I was comfortable with. I had called several vet places, asking some questions, and the responses that I got were not ones that I would call welcoming. Finally after a recommendation from someone I work with at Sylvan I stopped by the Chipman Road Animal Clinic. Talked to them about getting a complete work up done on Slinky. We needed his shots, and most importantly a dental cleaning. They were super nice, and explained everything to me. So Thursday afternoon we took Slinky in to get the blood work taken care of as well as give him his shots. Needless to say he wasn’t very happy when they took him into the back room away from Clint and I. Yesterday we had to take him back between 7 and 8 in the morning. They called about 1230 or so to tell us that he came through okay and that we could pick him up after 4. Everything checked out okay on Slinky, his liver, kidneys, joints etc… They did the Senior 7 on him plus the cleaning of his teeth. While he was asleep for the cleaning, they also clipped his nails (for free).

I haven’t been feeling very good lately. Really no one here in the house has. Amy went to the Clinic on Monday, and has a sinus infection. Clint’s nose will not stop running, but he doesn’t need to go to the doctor, and Thursday night I got extremely sick to my stomach as well as, coughing horribly with a fever. I went to the Doctor yesterday and found out that I have bronchitis. On top of that I had to have blood work done because I haven’t had my monthly visitor since April, and I’m not pregnant. There’s a possibility that I will have to have more blood work done depending on what the test says. Not really excited about all that, somewhat scary if you ask me. The doctor thinks it maybe my thyroid (which would explain that rapid weight gain in a span of two months as well as my lack of estrogen). Hopefully its nothing to serious. The nurse was supposed to call me yesterday to let me know what the blood test said, but I never got the call so it will be Monday now before I know anything. I’m just going to relax all weekend and not do a lot of unnecessary things.

Camping June 17, 2007

Clint and I got back into town from camping about 2pm today. Clint’s burnt like a red lobster, I’m sore from tubing and having been thrown out of the tube twice. Dinner is almost ready, and the heating pad is calling my name still. We had fun, and it was nice to get away, but we are both dog tired!

Moleskine Craze June 13, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 3:19 am

So Clint has been using the Moleskine pocket notebook for at least two years now. As we have been watching movies, his little notebook has been showing up. I have to admit, they are really nice for what he uses them for. He has a notebook with him where ever we go and is free to write down any ideas that come to mind. I acutally envy him in that aspect of the Moleskine. Our buddy Aaron has not started to use the Moleskines as well, but he uses the “artist” moleskin.

I however, am a die hard planner girl. I love the Moleskin concept, and guess what has just been released? Yep a Moleskine Planner. As soon as we get paid, I will be purchasing that little baby. They are in three sizes, pocket, large, and x-large. I personally like the large size. Not to small and not to big, just right.

Yeah for joining the Moleskine Craze

My Tuesday Nights June 13, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 2:26 am

So on Tuesday nights I have the house all. . . to. . . my. . . self!!! Usually it consists of me ordering pizza, and playing the Sims, or doing something in the silence. Today, I walked across the street to good ‘ol Family Video and rented some movies.

I just finished watching Because I Told You So. It was cute. My type of movie, not Clint’s. Which again is what makes Tuesday nights my favorite night. I can rent/do whatever I know Clint won’t want to do. I enjoyed my Pasta, my movie, and now I’m sitting on the bed, starting my second movie of the night with a HUGE pile of laundry that needs to be folded. Needed to be folded like on Saturday.

Second film of the night, Letters from Iwo Jima. Slinky’s at my side, laundry on the bed, and I got my glass of Kool-Aid to keep me going.

I love the sounds of a silent house and me typing. It’s wonderful!

Feel the Burn June 11, 2007

I just got back from my Curves workout. Man am I tired, but it’s a good tired. I have this inner desire to loose weight, however I still have this slight problem with motivation. I hoping that getting back into the swing of things will help with that motivation. I also believe that once I start to see some positive results then the motivation will come naturally.

Clint and I have class tonight. Leaving in about an hour. For now cooling down and doing a little car research over the internet. We are thinking about going from two cars to one sometime in the near future.

Books That Make Your Brain Hurt June 10, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 9:15 pm

So after a breakfast at IHOP this morning, Clint and I made a stop at Borders for a few books. Clint wanted a few books on running a small business, so while he was looking through the business section, I found my way into the teaching section (go figure sense they are right next to each other.) I picked up the following books:

I started reading this, and man does it make my brain hurt. But in a good way. Here’s a quick synopsis of what its about:
(Taken from Booklist) In this informative and often surprising book, more than 100 notable scientists and scholars answer the question, “What do you believe even though you cannot prove it?” The responses range from the thought-provoking to seemingly trivial (or just plain silly).
From what I have read so far, it has provoked my own mind to truly look into what I believe but can’t prove. What do you believe?
As if one mind hurting book from this editor wasn’t enough I grabbed another one.
Here’s the description found on Amazon.com:
From Copernicus to Darwin, to current-day thinkers, scientists have always promoted theories and unveiled discoveries that challenge everything society holds dear; ideas with both positive and dire consequences. Many thoughts that resonate today are dangerous not because they are assumed to be false, but because they might turn out to be true.
What do the world’s leading scientists and thinkers consider to be their most dangerous idea? Through the leading online forum Edge (www.edge.org), the call went out, and this compelling and easily digestible volume collects the answers. From using medication to permanently alter our personalities to contemplating a universe in which we are utterly alone, to the idea that the universe might be fundamentally inexplicable, What Is Your Dangerous Idea? takes an unflinching look at the daring, breathtaking, sometimes terrifying thoughts that could forever alter our world and the way we live in it.
My final book that I picked up is somewhat of an easier read compared to the first too. Only makes sense again that I pick it up.

The picture is crappy, but The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History is something that I am rather interested in. I know that my college history classes were a huge eye opener, because what you are taught in Elementary, Middle and High School are just VERY simplified versions of what really happened. Here’s what one of the reviews of the book stated:
Claiming that most textbooks and popular history books were written by biased left-wing writers and scholars, historian Thomas Woods offers this guide as an alternative to “the stale and predictable platitudes of mainstream texts.” Covering the colonial era through the Clinton administration, Woods seeks to debunk some persistent myths about American history. For instance, he writes, the Puritans were not racists intent on stealing the Indians’ lands, the Founding Fathers were not revolutionaries but conservatives in the true sense of the word, the American War Between the States (to even call it a civil war is inaccurate, Woods says) was not principally about slavery, Abraham Lincoln was no friend to the slaves, and FDR’s New Deal policies actually made the Depression worse. He also covers a wide range of constitutional interpretations over the years, particularly regarding the First, Second, Ninth, and Tenth amendments, and continually makes the point that states’ rights have been unlawfully trampled upon by the federal government since the early days of the republic. Though its title is more deliberately provocative than accurate, Woods’ attack on what he sees as rampant liberal revisionism over the past 25 years proves to be an interesting platform for a book. He’s as biased as those he rails against, of course, but he does provoke thought in an entertaining way even if he sometimes tries to pass off opinion as hard facts.

Seeing as I have no actual “text” for my current graduate class, these books will do just fine!

Portfolio June 10, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 3:22 am

So I’ve spent the better half of the night working on my professional portfolio. Last night I searched the Internet trying to find a host site that I liked, however I was unsuccessful. I went back to Microsoft word to create this wonderful thing. I use MS Word during my undergraduate work and it was alright, just time consuming hyperlinking everything.

I have to include the NBPTS for my graduate work, and I have personally decided to include the NETS for my own personal growth. Mainly because I try and use a lot of technology in my classroom, so why not include it.

I think I want to get my National Board Certification, so having my portfolio in progress now will help with that a few years down the line.

I’ve also been working on my classroom website. I’m going to try and keep that up to speed this year. I was so overwhelmed towards the end of last school year that I let it slide. Fingers crossed I can keep it up.

Time to switch from academic gears to home gears. I’ve got a bed full of clean laundry that needs to be folded.

Shopping With Amy June 8, 2007

Filed under: Uncategorized — cassiekrause @ 2:50 am

So Amy and I went shopping yesterday. It was a lot of fun. We bought our Yogo beginners box set. It has a mat, two bricks, and a strap. I already had the Yogo DVD, so we didn’t have to buy that.

I went back to curves this week, after my three months hiatus. My weigh in wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. So I’m going to Yogo on the days I don’t go to Curves. This way I’ve got muscle toning/flexibility and my circuit training at Curves.

I’m going to try my hardest to limit my soda intake. Today was good. Had my Vanilla Dr. Pepper on my way to Sylvan. Since it’s summer I’m working at Sylvan Monday through Friday from 8:30 - 12:30. The extra pay coming in will be WONDERFUL!!

I did get a new job for next school year for those of you that hadn’t heard. I’ll be working at the Derrick Thomas Academy teaching either 4th or 5th grade. EXCITING!!! I have to go to St. Louis for a few days for training, but it’s paid for by the school.

We are going camping next weekend. I can’t wait. Tents, sleeping bags, s’mores, and tubing!!! YEAH!!
