Learning the Ups and Downs of Motherhood

Sick Hubby October 14, 2007

I took Clint to St. Luke’s East ER this morning.  He had been up all night puking in the bathroom.  You know Clint, he never gets sick, but when he does, he does.  We were there for almost three hours. Not waiting mind you.  We were in the waiting room for not even five minutes when they called us back.  They, the nurse and doctor, put two liters of fluid into Clint through an IV.  He has a touch of the flu.  Which to me is shocking, because I’m the one that works with sick children.  We got home around noon, and he’s been asleep since then.  Looking at the clock it’s 7:09.  He’s not going to Sedalia tomorrow to play.  I’m going to let him have the bed tonight. He needs to get his rest, plus I don’t mind sleeping on the couch.

It rained all night as well.  When we got back from the hospital, our lovely creek was a raging river. It’s now back to being a creek.  Well time to get to grading my student’s work.  End of the Quarter Blues.

Day Off October 10, 2007

I took the day off today.  Not because I want to be lazy, but because I (1) have an OB appointment today @ 3:15 and (2) have massive amounts of work to do for my graduate class.

I know I should wait until the last minute to get my things done for class, but here’s what I’ve got due for my last class of “The History of the American Presidency” (1) Reflection after visiting the Truman Library min. 5 pages (2) Research Paper: The First Ladies min 10 pages. (3) Presentation for class over research Paper (4) Take Home Final Exam. Which consists of 6 questions I choose 5 and each must be a min of 1 page a piece.

Yep I’ve got my work cut out for me.

UPDATE: GRANDMA

After school yesterday I talked to mom.  The doctor found a cancerous tumor in grandma’s colon.  He said it was pretty big. Last night they did a CAT scan to see if it had spread, and today sometime they are going to do a stress test on her heart to see if she can handle surgery.  Regardless of the outcome, her Dr. wants her to go to a nursing home for a few weeks.  She’ll have round the clock care, and they can help her with rehab (I guess the rehab part if they do the surgery)

As of right now, I’m handling everything pretty well. Clint and I have been talking about her health a lot the past few weeks.  I’m going to Warrensburg later today after my Dr.’s appointment to sit with her.

That’s all I know.  Time to get to work writing this massive paper!

Grandma October 6, 2007

Grandma is back in the hospital after being home for only  a week.  The oxygen they put her on isn’t work like it should because she still has fluid built up in her lungs.  Mom has a had a very stressful week taking care of grandma.  Grandma has been really weak, and has not been eating.

I’ll be heading to knob later this afternoon.  I have to go to the Truman Library for my graduate class, then I’m going to have my mom come and get me sometime between 4 and 5.

My grandma means the world to me.  I used to spend the summers with her when I was little.  She introduced me to the love of shopping.  She even let me go to the mall alone in Joplin one summer.  I was still in high school, newly 16 year old driver.  She gave me a limit to spend and her credit card.

I know shes tired, and lonely.  I know she misses my grandfather like crazy.  But is it selfish of me to want her here when my child is born?  I want her to meet her great-grandson. I want to be able to tell my son that his great-grandmother was here when he was born.  I know it’s selfish.  I just want him to meet her.

I came home early today. I have been feeling depressed since last night.  I’m sure it has to do with my hormones and such.  I broke down for no reason last night, and several times today. I spent the afternoon lying on the couch with Clint.  I do not have class tonight, so I’m going to try and work on some school things.  I’ve got  a huge box of things that need to be graded, and I need to type up my yearly goals document for my principals by tomorrow.

I’m hooked on Big Love.  Watched the first two discs yesterday, and now I’m on to the third.  Nothing like watching a show while you work.
